Synthesis of antioxidant 330


2,4,6-Tri(3,5-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxybenzyl) mesitylene was synthesized using 2,6-di-t-butyl-phenol,paraformaldehyde and mesitylene through etherealization and Friedel-Crafts reaction in two steps.Under the optimum conditions: H2SO4(ω=85%),n(H2SO4) ∶ n(mesitylene)=4∶1,n(2,6-di-t-butyl-4-methoxymethylphenol) ∶n(mesitylene)=4∶1,reaction temperature 10 ℃,dropping time 0.5 h,the yield was 89.2%.


Synthesis of Antioxidant 330 via Brφnsted Acidic Ionic Liquids


Four kinds of Brφnsted acidic functional ionic liquids were prepared from pyridine and butane-1,4-sultone.These ionic liquids were employed to catalyze an electrophilic substitution reaction to synthesize 1,3,5-trimethyl-2,4,6-tris(3,5-di-tertbutyl-4-hydroxybenzyl)benzene antioxidant 330.The optimal reaction conditions are:n([N-C4H8SO3HPyridine]﹢HSO-4)∶n(1,3,5-trimethylbenzene)∶n(3,5-di-tertbutyl-4-hydroxybenzyl methyl ether)=1∶3∶10,CH2Cl2 as co-solvent,reaction temperature 0 ℃ and reaction time 3 h.The yield is 89.6%.
